As of 1 September 2025, Leonie Grootveld and Martijn in ’t Veld have been appointed associate architects at EGM architects. EGM is delighted with the appointments, which highlight the growth of talent within the firm’s healthcare, laboratory, and residential care sectors.
Leonie and Martijn are both highly experienced and have been working as architects in the Cure, Care, and Laboratory sectors for over 20 years. They design with passion, drawing from their own expertise and ambitions to create healthy buildings for a healthy future. Their focus is on improving the wellbeing of people who receive care, as well as those working in healthcare and research.
Leonie has extensive experience in healthcare, where she uses her expertise to translate complex challenges into designs with a pleasant user experience. Her strength lies in creating future-proof buildings that support people throughout all stages of life — from large-scale university hospitals to small-scale residential facilities. She combines aesthetics, functionality, and user needs with the medical-technical requirements of each space and setting. With her open and analytical approach, she works closely with clients and design teams, shaping the design collaboratively and taking the lead in the process.
As an architect, I find it meaningful and rewarding to contribute to environments where people — despite illness or vulnerability — can truly be themselves. That calls for innovative solutions and attention to detail.
Martijn possesses in-depth expertise in healthcare and laboratory projects, which he has undertaken both in the Netherlands and internationally. His work covers all scales and cross-disciplinary links, and he always strives for maximum collaboration. It is precisely through this interdisciplinary approach that he finds solutions to the challenges in healthcare. Martijn regularly publishes and presents on the profession, EGM’s designs, and the opportunities within both sectors.
Looking beyond the boundaries of one’s own discipline is not only fascinating and enjoyable — it’s also the best recipe for creating architectural spaces that enhance people’s wellbeing.
With the appointment of Leonie and Martijn, EGM now has seven associates. They help shape the firm’s direction to realise sustainable, meaningful, and healthy buildings across all sectors, both within the Netherlands and internationally.
